Q: 1999 Audi A6 100k miles automatic New Jurid Front Pads and ATE Rotors Squeaking and Grinding?
Just put them on and they been squeaking and a little grinding since day one. I used grease on the pads and calipers. I thought these were good OEM pads and rotors.
Its been about 2 weeks now. Anyone have any recommendations?
A: I just got brand new Rotors and brake pads of my 1998 Audi A6 Quattro and they never squeaked or made any noises. They might not be compatible with your car if they've been squeaking and grinding for 2 weeks down the road now.

A: If the vehicle is a manual trans, it might have a deadman switch that went bad. If not, then the battery might have shorted a cell. Have you checked the battery posts and the cables from it to the block, the alternator, etc for corrosion? Was it extremely hot when you drove (vapor lock is possible, but not likely)? Does the solenoid click, or do you hear nothing? How old is the battery? My VW Jetta and Rabbits were hard on batteries; if they lasted over 4 years that was good...

Audi A6 saloon 1999. When i open boot all hazard lights come on and stay on they dont flash.When I close boot they go off. Any ideas why this is happening !!!!!!
A: Sounds like a safety feature. Look in the manual.

A: Nobody can answer that without knowing what state you live in, what county in that state and how they calculate their taxes. It depends on the assessed value of the car.
You can go to your county courthouse or the DMV and they'll tell you EXACTLY how much it will cost.
Q: Anyone have any thoughts on the Audi A6 Avant wagon?
I have been looking at the MBZ GL450 and the Lexus GX 470, but a friend suggested I consider the Audi AWD wagon as well, for all-wheel drive with much better fuel economy. Any thoughts on any of these three would be appreciated.
A: Thanks for asking this question! I am looking at buying a 1998 A6 wagon myself and wondered about it's reputation. So far my investigation has shown an overall satisfaction with the car but a dissatisfaction with the level of dealer service and the cost of dealer service. Gas mileage has been cited as average the acceleration as dull.
For me it is a sharp looking car and highly rated for safety. I need to occasionally haul large items and a pick up/SUV is no longer really needed nor comfortable.
Q: Audi A6 radio is locked. How do I unlock it?
I have an Audi A6 with a Bose Audigy sound system. The battery got disconnected and locked the radio. Since I purchased this car used, I did not get the unlock code. I've called the dealership (over an hour a way) and they say the only solution is to bring it in ($100). Anyone else have a better Idea on how to get this unlocked?
A: Go to the manufacturer's website and establish proof of ownership. They generally will let you get the unlock code for free.
Q: How do I jump start my 96 Audi A6? Does the computer have to be reset? How?
The battery is completely dead, no lights, can't even get into the trunk, only the driver side door will unlock with a key. Is there anyway I can get into the trunk now where I have jumper cables?
I still can't get into my trunk, car manual says my key should open the trunk but it won't, it turns but will not unlock.
I have a battery charger now so I don't need the cables, right?
The manual also says I can hook the battery cables to the emergency posts under the hood, which means I don't even need to get to the battery under the back seat. Can I hood the battery to the emergency post under hood also? It didn't mention that.
A: I don't think any of these "answerers" have ever owned or worked on an Audi. Otherwise, they would mention the under hood emergency start/jump post right away. You do not need to get under the seat. Either a battery charger or jumper cables with + attached to the post, and - attached to a bolt or bracket on the engine will do what you need. Once started, its important to be sure the battery is receiving a charge, or else you'll be jumping it again very soon.
Q: the engine light came on in my 1996 Audi A6. Are there any common problems with this car?
the car has 155,100 miles on it and i know it already needs a new rear end.
i have another car just like it that was purchased for parts from a junk yard, so i have the rear end already.
would the engine light come on because it recignizes that it needs a new rear end, or is it definately a totally different problem?
A: If you have an Autozone in your town they will diagnose it for free and believe it or not should have the part you need, I will bet as cold as it is it is most likely a mis fire.
Q: Mazdaspeed 6 vs Audi A6 which one to buy?
I am thinking of buying an 05 Audi A6 with 41,700k or considering a 07 Mazdaspeed6 with 13k on the clock. They are both in the same price range of 20grand and both are pretty loaded with options. What is a better deal I really want the Audi since it gets better mileage and more luxury but scared that I will have lots of trouble with it inthe future. The Mazda is fast and decent looking. Any opinions?
A: According to Consumer Reports the Speed6 has more engine problems than the A6.
The Speed 6 had some weird power loss problem.
The 2005 A6 seems slightly more reliable.
Both aren't the most reliable cars. Both are 1st year models. (In the Speed6 case 1st and lst year limited edition haha.)
I would go with the A6. I don't think major things break. Electronic gremlins, you can live with those broken.
Q: How do I reset my clock on an 99 Audi A6?

A: Both of these guys are wrong. Sorry to be blunt. There are two knobs on the bottom of the instrument cluster. You simply pull the knob on the left, and the hours should start flashing. Pulling the knob again will cycle through hours, minutes, months, days, and years. When the item you want to change is flashing, in your case hours, slightly twist the knob on the left. Twist counter-clockwise to go backwards, clockwise to go forward.

can i use some kind of sealer so it wont leak anymore that will work instead of paying alot of money to get it fixed? like bar's engine oil stop leak?
A: I presume you mean the sump? Assuming its not simply the drain plug washer/gasket then you could possibly repair a split from the outside with a twopack glue, but it would have to be very clean, and that would necessitate draining the sump and possibly jacking up one side of the car so no dirty oil is still dripping from the leak.Good luck!
Q: I need to replaceor fix my Audi A6 99 Instrument cluster?
I want to know if I have to go to a dealership to replace it because everything works but my central comp. screen located in the middle is very dim and I can't see it in the day but I can at night. I went to the dealership and the price quote to replace the entire cluster is RIDICULOUS and I cant afford it. So if someone can help me and give me some insight maybe someone with an Audi or a machaninc or anyone with helpful insight would be great!!!!Thanks everyone!!
A: The screens are really hard to repair so its best just to replace the entire thing. You might want to check ebay and see if there are any cheap ones there.
Dealerships are going to be way more expensice too.

Q: How do I reset a Radio for an Audi A6?
Battery was drained. When you turn radio on it displays SAFe on the LCD.
A: you need the radio code. The directions for putting the code in are found in your owners manual. If you do not have the code, you will need to take it to a dealer. The radio will need to be removed, the serial number written down, and the dealer will get on Audi's mainframe and get the code for you. Once you have it DON"T LOSE IT. It is pricey to have to get the code again everytime you lose battery power either due to repair of bad battery!
