Q: How to drive Audi A4 Multitronic paddle shift?
I just got an Audi A4 and it has multitronic transmission w/ paddle shifts. I have never driven a manual car before so I don't understand how gears work exactly.
Can someone explain to me in very simple terms how to use paddle shifts? I want to use this feature!
A: First of all, one of our associates points out that the car will operate just like a traditional automatic if left alone. However, the Multitronic CVT allows the driver to “manually” shift the artificial “gears” with the paddles. It is not a “manual transmission.”).
Another one of our car enthusiasts and associates suggests, that the Multitronic is simply Audi’s CVT (continuously variable transmission). If you’re not familiar, CVT’s don’t shift. They offer seamless acceleration with no gear changes. Many hybrids such as the Honda Civic hybrid, the Dodge Durango Hybrid, and the Toyota Prius feature these types of transmissions. While they can be optimal for fuel economy, their performance is generally less than optimal, as they’ve proven to be pretty weak in high power applications.
Our experts point out that the paddle shifters on the A4 and other Audi models equipped with the Multitronic transmission have computer controls that can dictate any number of manufacturer specified separate pre-determined transmission ratios. If you select manual mode and forget to shift, the transmission will simply default back to automatic mode so as not to hurt the engine.
The idea behind the paddle shifters is best discovered on a track or twisty road. They allow the driver to keep the car in a desired gear for optimal acceleration around tight turns or up and down steep grades. Example: If you’re about to start a turn, you may want to tell the car to shift into a lower gear, brake, and then since the lower correct gear is already selected, you can exit the turn under optimal power.
For everyday driving though, the paddle shifters really are not needed..
Proper use is fairly simple. When accelerating, tap the up shift paddle (go from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3) before redline. If you don’t tap the up shift paddle, the car will shift for you.
One of our associates points out that the owner’s manual might explain how to use the paddle shifters a little better. We also suggest that the best option would be to go back to the dealership for a demonstration. The bottom line is that you cannot hurt the car if you operate the paddle shifters wrong. The computers will take over before damage is done.

A: Im sure you can google things, and yes black leather gets really hot when you leave it in the sun. I have to park my A4 with that in mind during the summer. Window tint helps a lot.

I have a audi a4 that i bought with no title from an impound yard. it had police release but no title. knowing i may not be able to obtain a title in order to register i didnt pay much. is there anyway i would be able to buy a title for this car
A: You'll likely have to go to the DMV and ask for a "reconstructed" title or something similar.

Q: What are the tabs in front of the headlights on a '98 Audi A4?
I just purchased a used 1998 Audi A4 and there are tabs in front of the headlights mounted on the front bumper that raised up during my drive home from the dealership and have not gone back down. I'm not sure what these do or what they're for but I'd like to find out. Can anyone help???
How do I make them go down?
A: They are headlight washers, the servos in them could have gone bad or the headlight washer switch could be bad, don't try to force them down, you may damage the mounts holding them, get the car to a dealer or mechanic that knows German cars

I have a 2000 model Audi A4 which i dont have the handbook for.Im trying to figure out how to turn on & off the A/C.I got a button which says 'econ' so im presuming that if i press that button on (red lights come on) then the A/C is off?
A: Yes, the ECON button turns the AC off, you can also push the + button until the AC turns off too.
Q: is it possible to convert a car (audi a4)with an automatic transmission to a manual transmission?
There is a 99 audi A4 2.8 quattro for sale for $8000, how ever my dad is good friends with the seller, and would sell it to us for 3.5K
the only thing is it's an auto, and i REALLY want a manual, so is there any way to swap an auto trans for a manual trans for under $4000, because thats how much i would save.
A: Well .. as a great man once said ... "Nothing is Impossible" .. If you can dream it ... you can do it ...
Keeping the money (3k-9k) ,,, time(2-6weeks) ...and the mechanic aside... ... It can be done.
Transmissions go for .. $1500-$4500 depending on condition, and where you buy it... plus the labour, which will be additional $1500-$4500, again depending on the kind of shop,
Now the only thing is that ... do you really wanna spend 3.5K on car you are getting for 3.5K in the first place .. ?
Since I don't wanna sound like a 60 year old man ... i wouldn't tell wether to do it or not .. ..
instead .,.. ask yourself this .. Will the 3.5k , you spend on the transmission, be worth the hastle .. when you can go ahead and get a manual anyways .. ??
P.S. A4s also have triptronic .. which is not the same .. but almost.
Q: I'm trying to install a component speaker system in my '98 audi a4 .. What's the best way to go about this?
Hey all, here's the deal.
I'm running an aftermarket head unit in my '98 audi A4. Rather than running new wires to the rear speakers, I've decided to only use my front speakers. I was looking at some after market options, but I found out that the front speakers are only 4 inches! Can I put together a good component system with 4 inch speakers? Does anyone know if I can modify the car to fit 6.5" speakers?
A: have someone do the wiring and then just put them in the back,, it'll be a lot less of a headache (i wouldnt advise going to circuit city though, they messed up on my other car)

A: i love the new a4. it looks awesome with the leds and curves. i think they did a great job if i had the money it would for sure be a high contender and yes i do like the s line version.

I have a 2004 Audi a4 1.8T and I'm looking for a pair of ski racks but I'm not sure what kind I can use. Is there suppose to be hooks somewhere on my roof because there's nothing on my roof that looks like its made to put ski racks?

Just pick a base rack then look in the snow section for what kind of locks you want. If you search is also shows what the racks look like on different cars. Personally, I have a Thule rack, seems sturdy enough.

A: Are you looking the drivers manual or a service manual. Not sure where you can download either from, if at all. Your best bet is to go to your nearest audi dealer and ask them to get it for you. May cost you a few pence but they'll get a drivers manual no problem. They will not be so keen to get you a service/maintenance manual though. They'd rather you pay them to do the work. If you've a spicific problem try searching around some of the audi spacific fourms. Others may of had simular problems.

i am wondering where can i get a supercharger kit for my 96 audi a4 2.8l v6 and also how much they will cost?
A: older car, and your starting point is quite low (both hp & torque).
an installation to to get you anywhere close to 250 rwHP (power where it counts at the rear wheels) is going to cost big$ if you get anywhere close to a performance shop (say starting point $8000, depending on how much engine prep is needed).
If you really want performance, like in most situations....unless you have a home shop & talent its cheaper to buy power on the hoof, rather than do a build out of an existing vehicle.

A: If this is your stock stereo that your talking about, try talking to the dealership. I really do not think that the stock stereo that you choose is capable of handleing GPS. You will need more than just the map CD and the antenna. The stereo actually needs the programing for Navigation.

Q: What's the strange beeping noise from the back of my Audi A4?
Occasionally when I start my Audi A4 1.9tdi I can hear four loud beeps that sound like they're coming from the boot area. I have no idea what's causing them or where they're coming from but it's annoying me and I want to know what it means. I don't have reversing sensors fitted so it's not that.
A: The only thing that's in the boot that can make a noise is the vacuum module that operates the central locking its a small black box on the r/h side as you look at car from front.These have been known to make similar noises.you need to get somone to start car whilst you are in a position to locate noise.Regards |Mick
